I've recently been so into the fluffy brow look. I noticed it trending and saw so many girls pulling it off and thought it looked so pretty but always thought I wouldn't be able to pull it off myself.
But, then one day I started playing around with different makeup looks and decided to try it and was obsessed!!
A couple of years back, I got my eyebrows waxed and my hair never grew back on my tails at the end of them..I have little bald spots on them (not really noticeable) but I definitely feel so insecure with it especially when going out without makeup or without filling them in with eyebrow pencils.
I've always wanted full fluffy-looking brows without constantly applying brow gel or brushing them up how I'd like them to be and then applying brow pencil to fill them in for them to just lose their shape and not be fluffy by the mid/end of the day.
It's such a hassle.
So, recently I have discovered a salon called SugaringNYC. I researched and noticed that they are mostly known for their sugaring organic waxing services BUT also their eyebrow lamination. I was intrigued. If you'd like a brief introduction to what eyebrow lamination is I got this off their website: "The microblading alternative that has taken over in Europe fills in the gaps in brows and gives them the illusion of fullness, length, and density in a fast and noninvasive way". { via }
If you'd like more info and details or to just simply check out the rest of their services click here.
Here I'll be sharing my process, pricing, aftercare, before and after photos, and why I got it done.
So, let's get into the details step by step:
NON-INVASIVE
Unlike micro blading, which basically involves a needle tattooing your eyebrows, lamination is non-invasive and there are no needles and pain in the process.
2. LONG LASTING
With proper care, the results can last anywhere from 6-8 weeks depending on how you take care of them.
3. NATURAL LOOKING
The lamination process simply takes the hairs you already have and gives it more of a fluffy structure and makes them appear more fuller while covering any gaps where hair doesn't grow. The results are natural-looking and are super simple to maintain.
Here's the step-by-step process:
STEP 1: WAXING OR PLUCKING
To me, there's nothing better than getting a brow expert to work their magic on shaping and trimming my eyebrows. I got my hair trimmed and plucked to perfection. Especially those stubborn baby hairs growing. It helped a lot to perfect my brow shape.
STEP 2: LIFTING CREAM
In this step, they apply a lifting cream on your brows that is applied to brush them through to make them separate and to make them more flexible, and shape them. They will let this sit with plastic wrap on top of them to keep them in place.
STEP 3: NEUTRALIZER
This is a chemical solution that is applied to the brows to hold them and set them into place. They will also let this shit on your brows for a few minutes.
STEP 4: NOURISHING OIL
Since the previous chemicals were applied to your brows during the lamination process, this treatment is a must to condition and nourish your new fluffy voluminous brows. This oil is to bring some moisture and shine back into your newly shaped brows.
STEP 5: TINTING
This is not typical in every brow lamination treatment since it isn't mandatory. It's up to you whether you'd like the tinting process included. This step personally is my favorite because my eyebrow hairs contained some bald spots on the tails of them. By getting them tinted, it brought them back to life and made them look so much fuller. Which I love!!! I loved the results so much more with them tinted. (Again, this step isn't usually in every brow lamination treatment unless mentioned or added beforehand)
Now, since we went over what brow lamination and tinting is, how it works, and the step-by-step process...
Let's go over pricing.
PRICING FOR BROW LAMINATION
Pricing for brow lamination with or without tinting varies based on which salon you get it done from. SugaringNYC offers it for only $70 for a complete sugar wax, brow lamination, and tint.
BROW LAMINATION AFTERCARE
The brow lamination process is quite simple and pain-free so the aftercare to it is pretty simple itself. The most important thing to remember is to NOT wet the brows for 24 HRS. Another thing to remember post-treatment to maintain and have the best results is to not sweat. So no working out for 24 HRS as well since we want to stay away from getting them wet. This will help give the chemicals time to set on your hair for the process to work properly and to stay on the 4-6 weeks.
BRUSH YOUR BROWS
Once the 24 HR mark has passed you are free to go on with your "normal" routine of face washing, showering, working out, and wearing makeup. But, remember your brows need to be maintained. They don't just stay up and fluffy for the 8 weeks straight. For them to maintain their fluff and fullness you'd have to brush them daily with a spoolie to keep the fluff and shape them how you'd like. Keep some clean spoolies on you and brush them every morning/night. That's what I did to keep them fluffy throughout the day. They don't lose shape but to boost them and fluff them up I like to brush them to keep them voluminous longer.
IF YOU GET YOUR BROWS TINTED
So, let me just warn ya before you get surprised with how you look after the tinting process..After getting your brows tinted I would avoid going out in public for 24 HRS (if you could) just because your brows are freshly done and holding up and obviously DARK from the tint. It fades away after the 24 HR mark. After you wash your face it will lighten up and not be as dark. The tint can make them look super DARK just want to clarify that because I wish I knew before getting scared and thinking that is their final result. It will fade after the first face wash. As you can probably see my eyebrows were dark in the photo below but again, after the time you wash your face your brows will be lighter and you'll be good to go!
FINALLY, the moment is here! The before and after photos!
The top photo really shows my brows dullness and the bald spots I have on the tails of them. They're a little thin yet with a good shape but the lamination and tint helped with defining my brows shape more, adding color with volume and keeping them fluffy. Note that on the final results photo, I have NO product or gel on them. This is them just brushed with a spoolie the morning of.
HOW AMAZING IS THAT!
This is definitely something I am adding to my routine and getting done more often. I am obsessed and need my brows to be like this more often. It also makes applying my makeup easier since I don't need to apply any brow product! I look more put together in the morning and I LOVEEEE how my brows look laminated and tinted.
I love an easy makeup look with some BB cream, mascara, eyebrows, and lip gloss.
Not only were my eyebrows fluffy and shaped to how I never imagined them looking but they tinted my eyebrow hairs and made them look so PERFECT. I don't have to apply makeup to them, apply a ton of clear brow gel to get them brushed up or worry about my bald spots showing.
LOVE THAT!!
After my session, my eyebrows are looking better than ever. I can brush them up with a spoolie one time for the whole day and they are fluffed up for the whole entire day and even make it through the night until I wake up the next morning.
This treatment basically sets your eyebrow hairs and makes them more flexible if that makes sense. Before laminating my brows they were all over the place and not ever set in place or were able to stay up. After lamination, they are more tamed and will basically go in any direction I put them in. It just manages them and gives them more flexibility so you have fuller-looking brows, volume, and texture.
Before I go... I want to mention do your research and read reviews before booking a salon. It's important to go to someone who knows what they're doing and whom you can trust with this service in order to get the best results. Here in Los Angeles, I went to SugaringNYC in the Beverly Hills location. I also got my service done by Ali. If you go to this location or book with Ali tell her I sent you or show her my Instagram!
